The Ultimate Gift Guide for Sewing Lovers
Mothers Day is coming! If you’re wondering what the heck to buy for a mom (or anyone!) who loves to sew, fret no more. There are luckily a TON of great sewing related gifts, tools, toys and gadgets. No matter your budget, I’ve got you covered.
I’m here with an ultimate sewing lover’s gift guide for you, with gifts for any and every budget. I’ll start with the small, inexpensive sewing tools, include some fun Etsy sewing related gifty finds, move on to a list of great sewing books, and then finish up with some big ticket items that I’ve thoroughly researched and feel good about recommending. For more ideas, check out the Pin, Cut, Sew Amazon Storefront, which I keep updated with all my favorite tried and true sewing items, plus some that I have on my wishlist (maybe I should send this post to my husband as a hint-hint, ha!)
This post may contain affiliate links, which means that while I am not paid to promote certain items, I will earn a small commission should you purchase items through these links. For more info, see my disclosure policy.
The Ultimate Gift Guide for People Who Sew
Let’s start with the sewing tools and gadgets you can get pretty inexpensively. This list goes beyond the basic sewing tools to items that your sewing mom/friend/brother likely doesn’t already have.
Unique Sewing Tools and Gadgets
Wonder Clips —An oh-so-handy alternative to pins for many types of sewing projects
Ott Lights —Beloved by creators everywhere, these are great daylight lights, easy on the eyes.
LED strip lights for extra light on your sewing machine
Leather Thimble (my absolute favorite thimble, I can’t live without it!)
Seam Roller — to flatten those bulky seams and press seams open without ironing
Expandable Ruler/Gauge — most useful for spacing out buttonholes
The BEST Sliding Gauge
FastTurn Tube Turners —another absolute must-have, in my opinion!
Clover Chalk Pens — my favorite marking tool
Extra Rotary Cutter Blades — My husband put these in my stocking once and it’s so nice to have them on hand!
Rotating Square Cutting Mat — most useful for quilters
Unique Gifts for Sewing Lovers on Etsy
There are several cute sewing shirts on Etsy, but I love this sweet sewing machine t-shirt best. I also think many people would like this Sewciopath shirt. Too funny!
I’ve been in love with this retro sewing machine art print for months now! Two of my other favorites are this “Sewing Because Murder is Wrong” print (hilarious!) and, because reading and sewing are two of my favorite things to do, this Happily Ever After print.
Custom Sewing Labels are a great gift! They’re inexpensive, they can be personalized, and they’re also something most people don’t buy for themselves (though I think we all should!)
There are several personalized sewing signs on Etsy, but I love the design of this sign best.
You can also find many vintage sewing baskets on Etsy, which I think would make an extra sweet and personal gift.
Sewing Books That Make Great Gifts
Any books from Tilda’s Studio, this collection includes some of my favorites.
The Act of Sewing: How to Make and Modify Clothes to Wear Every Day (this one is brand new and is on my personal wish list!)
Sew Your Own Wardrobe: More than 80 Techniques (also new this year)
Hand Sewing: A Jounrey to Unplug, Slow Down & Learn Something Old (another brand new one on my list!)
Urban Quilting (this one was just released and looks excellent)
Sewing Gifts for Bigger Budgets
Here is a collection of higher priced sewing items, including some machines I recommend and a few bigger or pricier tools for the sewing lover in your life.
The Cricut Maker. The craft item that does it all. Need I say more?
Does your sewing lover have a serger? If not, I can almost guarantee they with they did! I use a trusty Juki serger that I’ve used for many years. It’s always worked like a dream, I’ve never had any issues with it, so I love to recommend it as a budget friendly serger. You can buy my Juki serger on Amazon, or from SewingMachinesPlus.com, which offers a payment plan.
My Dad gifted my Mom enough of these OLFA interlocking cutting mats to cover her entire cutting surface and she’s been thrilled with them! I’m coveting some for my own cutting table.
Rolling Tote for a Sewing Machine — especially useful for social sewists and quilters who haul their gear to classes and group meetings.
Dritz Sew You Adjustable Dress Form. I’ve been researching these for some time now because I personally really want one! This is the one I’ve landed on and put on my wish list. Anyone who sews clothing would appreciate receiving a dress form as a gift.
If your sewing lover has taken over the dining room table, perhaps a sewing desk would be a great gift. This is the sewing desk I’d choose if I was short on space and wanted all my tools close at hand.
Sewing Machine Upgrade. If the sewist in your life is using a beginner model sewing machine, an upgrade would be the ultimate surprise! If you’re like me and you don’t have a sewing machine retailer in your area, I recommend shopping on SewingMachinesPlus.com. They’re known for their good prices, their excellent customer service to help you choose the right machine, their free shipping, and their huge variety of options. They also offer payment plans.
Whew! I hope this list has been helpful and sparked some ideas for how to buy gifts for the seamstresses and seamsters in your life! I’ve tried hard to curate the best of the best when it comes to sewing toys, but if you have a tool you think should definitely be included here, be sure and let me know!
Cheers :)
