I absolutely love baby showers! Whenever I get to go to one, I get so excited and immediately start thinking about what gifts I’ll sew. Usually I pair something handmade with something from the registry so that the new mom receives the things she needs, but also gets to open something unique and different.

Sensory Baby Block Toy
I’m going to start with my favorite! Maybe because it’s my most recent baby sewing tutorial, but also because I think it’s just plain FUN to make. I brought one of these sensory baby block toys to a baby shower very recently and not only did the mom-to-be love it, it got passed around and played with by all the women there. It’s a scrap friendly project too, if you have little pieces of ribbons and trims on hand!
Classic Baby Bibs
I’ve been making baby bibs using this very pattern for years and years, since my own children were little and used bibs. For all the fancy baby bibs on the market today, I feel like nothing quite beats the simplicity of the classic baby bib with a basic snap closure. This tutorial will teach you how to make a baby bib in any size! It’s one of the oldest tutorials on my YouTube channel and blog and remains one of the most visited, so it’s definitely tried and true.
Ribbon Tag Baby Blanket
This is another baby item I’ve been sewing since my own kids were babies and I’ve lost count of how many I’ve sewn since. Babies love ribbon tags on anything, so what’s better than a blanket surrounded with them? These blankets only require a couple yards of flannel and a yard each of four different ribbons. They’re also very easy to make! I can sew one of these baby blankets in about an hour.
Burp Rags
When my first baby was born, I found myself with a colicky newborn and hardly any burp cloths! I must not have thought I’d need very many and I didn’t receive them as gifts, so I found myself scrambling to get some more. Now, burp rags are not only a gift I like to include with baby shower gifts, they’re also something I often bring new moms after the baby is born and I get to meet them for the first time. Sometimes I get some supermarket flowers for the mama and bring the new baby some cute new burp rags. These can be made in a variety of absorbent fabrics, so they’re often a scrap friendly project and can be sewn up with things you already have on hand. Roll them up and tie them with a ribbon for gifting and you’re all set.
Sock Monkey
I was first inspired to make a sock monkey tutorial because someone at a baby shower had made one and brought it as a gift. She said she always makes them for baby showers and I thought it was the absolute cutest thing! Sock monkeys make fun gifts for anyone, but there’s something so sweet about making one for a new baby. They are also very affordable to make, since you only need a good pair of socks!
Baby Hats
I love making these cute baby hats! I think the most fun part, of course, is choosing fabrics, since you can get such cute knit fabrics in so many fun prints. That said, I’ve also made baby hats out of upcycled t-shirts and other clothing, so this can be a free gift to sew if you’re on a budget, but still want to make something nice as a baby shower gift.
