Pyramid Pin Cushion Tutorial
I recently decided I needed to replace all my sewing pins! So naturally, I then decided I needed some new pin cushions too, haha. So today, I’m happy to introduce my newest sewing pattern and tutorial, the Pyramid Pin Cushion!
This pin cushion pattern includes two sizes. I wanted a smaller small pin cushion to keep right in front of my sewing machine, or even on the throat plate while I’m sewing. I also love the small version because it’s handy to tote around with hand sewing projects!
The larger size is great too, though, as a more average sized pin cushion. I like to have pins close at hand at all times when I’m sewing So I have multiple pin cushions in my sewing room — one on my ironing board, one on my cutting table, one next to my machine. I even have pins in my bedroom since that’s where I try things on for fitting. You can’t have too many!
The added beauty of this particular style of pin cushion is that it’s divided into natural sections. If you’re someone who does many types of sewing and has a few different styles of pins, this cushion is for you. Rather than mixing my long quilting pins up with my shorter pins I like to use for piecing or garment sewing, this pin cushion can keep my pins neatly separated. Since it has four distinct sides, it’s easy to keep my pins from getting mixed up with each other.
The small version of the pyramid pin cushion is also a great way to keep your sewing machine needles sorted! It’s so hard to see the tiny writing on those needles, so if you switch between needles a lot, from ball point, to denim, to trusty size 80s, you can store the needles that still have life in them in each side of the pyramid.
