The Phoebe Rag Doll Sewing Pattern
I’m very excited to announce an original sewing pattern, new to the Pin Cut Sew Shop! Introducing the Phoebe Rag Doll, an easy soft doll PDF sewing pattern, with a sleep sack and diaper.
I really wanted to create a simple, one piece, soft doll sewing pattern that’s simple enough for even kids to sew with help. There are many lovely rag doll sewing patterns on the market, but none are really very quick to make, and thus, aren’t something most people would have the desire to make more than once.

I set out to remedy this by creating a basic doll that uses just one main pattern piece for the body and head, with easy-to-sew clothes (no setting in tiny sleeves, haha!) So, in this first installment of the Phoebe Rag Doll pattern, I’ve included the basic baby doll with the sleep slack and diaper patterns. In the coming months, I plan to release variations on this pattern for animal dolls, plus many more clothes, so you can get lots of mileage out of this one pattern and satisfy your little ones’ desires for more cute little clothes for their dolls!

What Comes with the Phoebe Rag Doll Pattern?
This pattern is a PDF download. So upon your purchase, you will automatically receive the digital file to download and print. The file is 13 pages and includes pattern notes and a supply list, the pattern pieces and embroidered face templates, then step by step instructions with photos, for the doll and the clothes.
Is the pattern beginner & child friendly?
The written pattern assumes that you have intermediate sewing and embroidery skills. BUT, for beginners, I’ve created a sew-a-long video for the doll! The video demonstrates the entire process, including the trickier parts, like how to sew tight curves, basic embroidery techniques, tips for sewing the pattern with kids, and other helpful hints and tricks.

What materials do I need to sew the doll?
You need:
The pattern, of course.
Cotton fabrics in skin tones for the doll, and prints for the sleep sack. I used Kona cottons for most of my samples. Can’t go wrong with Kona! The doll fits on a fat quarter, or you’ll need 1/3 of a yard if buying yardage.
Solid white or other neutral solid color flannel for the lining
Wool felt for the diaper. Any felt will do, but wool is so much nicer and holds up best.
Sew in Velcro dots. So nice for doll clothes, so it won’t be wasted if you purchase a pack or two!
Scraps of ribbon or buttons (optional)
Scraps of embroidery floss. I used black, brown and pink.
A scrap of chunky yarn for hair
1/4” elastic
Hemostats are helpful for turning and stuffing. You will not regret buying a pair for your sewing room!
That’s all! You can get creative with these supplies, of course, and use what you have on hand. Most households have scraps of all kinds of things lying around. Raid the donation pile for fabrics and trims/buttons, if you have to!
